80/20 Bronze or Phospher/Bronze?
That is the question.
Which string to use is one question that all guitarist face shortlly after buying their guitar.
The acoustic guitar player is spoilt for choice and this choice can make it bloody confusing and even a little bit daunting. Our natural instinct is to simply get the same that came with the guitar or take a recommendation from a friend or muso. Here we want to explain the differences between strings in simple terms and without favouring one brand over another.

80/20 Bronze

Often called brass strings these are made from 80% copper, 20% zinc wire wrapped around hex shaped tin plated steel core wire. They are excellent for projecting a penetrating acoustic sound with unsurpassed tonal range. These strings loose their initial super brilliance after a few hours of use. The remaining tone, however, is still pleasant and penetrating.

PHOSPHOR BRONZE

These have a longer lasting tone than the 80/20 due to the phosphorus content. These strings provide about 80% of the brilliance of a new 80/20 set for a bright, rich tone that's not excessive.
